Peruvian Chakapa
Our Chakapas are handmade in the amazonian jungle in Peru, where they are used as a rhythm and healing instrument. It is a bundle of leaves from the olyra latifolia plant, which make a hypnotic and soothing rattling sound when shaken. They are the perfect accessory for every ceremony. Measurements are approximately: length 30-40 cm and width 30-40 cm. Follow the instructions provided below before using your Chakapa.
Traditionally the Chakapa is used by the shaman during ayahuasca ceremonies when icaros are also sung to help call in the spirit helpers. They can be made from many different plants, like the Pariana bush or the Chambira palm. Our Chakapas are made from dried leaves of the olyra latifolia plant, which is sustainably harvested from the Amazon rainforest. The leaves are carefully selected and woven together to create a lightweight yet sturdy fan-like structure. The intricate weaving pattern not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also enhances its sound.
The sound of the Chakapa is said to comfort patients during the ceremony and can assist in “cleansing” the energy surrounding the patient. Shamans have a large variety of Chakapa movements that create different sounds and energy waves. It is said that once the shaman has caught any bad spirits in the Chakapa, it is then blown out through the leaves into the forest. There any negative energy is taken in by the trees and plants and dispersed in the purifying love of Mother Nature.
Our Chakapas are commonly used by shamans and energy healers during rituals, ceremonies, and healing sessions. The gentle waving motion of the Chakapa creates a soothing sound that helps to calm the mind and induce a state of relaxation. It is believed to clear negative energy, balance chakras, and promote spiritual well-being. The Chakapa can also be used for smudging rituals, where the leaves are lightly brushed over the body or around a space to purify the energy and remove any stagnant or negative vibrations. Its compact size makes it easy to carry and use wherever you go, allowing you to create a sacred space anywhere you desire.
Each Chakapa is unique, showcasing the craftsmanship and cultural heritage of the Peruvian artisans. By purchasing this authentic handmade tool, you are not only supporting traditional craftsmanship but also connecting with the rich spiritual traditions of the Amazonian culture.
How to use the Chakapa?
Before using the Chakapa, it needs to be humidified. It is dehydrated and flattened before shipping, so the leaves and stems are very brittle and may break upon first use. The Chakapa can easily be brought back to life by simply spraying clean water over it from all sides and setting it aside for a day. After the leaves have absorbed the moisture and feel soft, give it a good shake so that the leaves reorganise themselves and the Chakapa becomes voluminous. Every time before using it, you may repeat this process the night before. Often curanderos in the Amazon spray the leaves with Aqua Florida or other flower water by taking a mouthful of it and spraying it onto the leaves. It is also advised to treat the Chakapa this way after a ceremony, to wash off all the energies it has gathered.

I was many many ceremonies and so love the sound of the Chakapa. I’d like one to reproduce the feelings of the ceremony at home(I don’t pretend to be a shaman just use it for myself). This is a good quality product and seems original and the price is very good too. Recommended
